520 _aRooting response in air layers of twelve clones of Hevea brasiliensis was evaluated. Variability in rooting per cent of these clones ranged from 0-95;. Survival of the transplanted air-layers also showed considerable variability. Based on rooting success in one year old plants, six clones were grouped as easy-to-root types (above 75;rooting success), two clones as medium-to-root (40.75;rooting) and four clones as hard-to root (below 40;) types. It was observed that age of the plant has a definite effect on per cent of rooting and survival of rooted layers. Except two clones, one and two year old plants of the other clones gave better rooting per cent and survival of rooted layers of these clones at all the three ages studied. Survival of rooted layers and mean number of roots per layer also showed positive relationship.
