520 _aMale and female gametogenesis in Hevea brasiliensis were studied to verify the possible occurrence of meiotic irregularities that could explain the low fruit set observed in this plant. Histological sections were made of floral buds of 13 clones (GT711, AVROS1328, RRIM526, RRIM600, PR107, IAN2652, IAN2813, Fx25, PB86, IAC1, IAC2, Tjir 1 and Tjir 16). Mega- and micro-sporogenesis were normal in all the materials, and no irregularities were detected. Meiosis resulted in binucleate pollen grains and normal octanucleate embryo sacs. Each phase of the cycle is discussed.
