520 _aThe effect of potassium cyanide and linamarin on translocation incompatibility of the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) clone IPA 1 was compared with budded crowns of clones of other species. Solutions of KCN were applied causing rapid coagulation of the latex in the laticiphers of IPA 1, at very low concentrations, the same effect being observed in Fx 4098 at higher concentrations. The Fx 4098 clone exhibited a slight reduction of the latex flow at the highest KCN concentration. Linamarin application resulted in necrosis preceded by latex coagulation, which spread further at the stem, indicating a higher mobility of linamarin than KCN. The clone IPA 1 was sensitive to low concentrations of linamarin, with higher concentrations causing the same effects on Fx 4098 and no significant effect on Fx 3864. An accumulation of free HCN was detected in the bark of IPA 1 with linamarin application. The incompatibility with IPA 1 was caused by the translocation of cyanogenic glycosides from the budded crowns to the stem which was deprived with sufficient capacity to remove the HCN liberated by the hydrolysis of cyanogenic glycocides, while Fx 3864 had a very efficient detoxifying capacity.
