520 _aThe latex and NR from rubber trees from the region of Presidente Prudente, state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, are characterised, with the clones RRIM 600, IAN 873, GT 1 and PB 252 investigated in two different tapping systems. The parameters studied are dry rubber content (DRC) and percentage of ashes and of nitrogen. The rubber properties vary considerably as a function of clone type, tapping method and year season. DRC tends to decrease in the begining of the dry, cold season (May and June), whereas both;nitrogen and;ashes increase in the same period. One hypothesis is that climate conditions favour the fall of tree leaves and decrease of photosynthesis, thus causing the plant nutrients to be directed to the latex.
