520			_aThe study makes an attempt to go indepth of the problems and technical facilities of over 400 rubberwood consuming units functioning in Kerala. The study underscores the necessity to improve the quality of the raw material and the final products for sustained development of rubberwood based industries. The problems that adversely affect the quality and availability of raw material as revealed from the survey include the presence of tension wood, warping, tapping wound, discoloration, borer attack and infection by sapstain fungus.
