520 _aThe purpose of this paper is to highlight the hitherto unexploited potential of the rubber smallholdings sector as producers of rubberwood apart from latex and it intends to present the aggressive and concerted efforts taken by the Rubber Industry Smallholders Authority (RISDA) towards the development and implementation strategies to ensure the continuous supply of rubber timber from the smallholdings to the growing rubberwood based industries. The smallholders (with rubber area below 40.5 ha.) account for about 80 per cent of the total planted area and almost 4.2 lakh rubber smallholders do not have information with respect to the demand, price and quality of rubberwood required. From the supply side, the most constraining factor is the inadequate log transportation facilities caused by lack of bridges connecting different locations of log supply.
