520 _aThe potential of rubberwood for various end-uses is significant in many countries where latex is produced as a cash crop and offers a means by which the pressures on primary species can be reduced in allowing a certain degree of substitution to take place. However, in view of the susceptibility of green Rubberwood to fungal and insect attack it is important that preventive measures be taken in order to reduce losses in value. The work reported in this paper demonstrates that effective prophylactic treatments have a significant role to play in increasing the viability of rubberwood as a raw material although it is important for the treatments to be integrated from the log to the sawn timber in conjuction with rapid extraction and conversion to obtain full, practical benefit.
