| 520 | _aRubberwood can be dried rapidly. 28 mm planking takes 4 days and 63 x 105 mm framing 13 days to killn dry from green condition. The timber contains widely variable amounts of tension wood. Spring, bow and twist are common but not too severe. A 5-6 mm oversize would suffice to preclude them from the dried stock by sunsequent planing. These defects would not assume objectionable proportions in short-length narrow-width timber intended for furniture, packing cases, bobbins, shuttles, footwear bottoms etc. Pith and centre heart must be excluded during sawing. The timber shows a little surface cracking tendency, which however will need further extensive testing. Tentatively, Schedule No. V of IS: 1141-1973 is recommended as such for planking and with initial humidities increased by 7;for framing. The timber compares with aini and chickrassy in drying rate and shrinkage. | ||
