520			_aMedium density fibreboard or MDF from rubberwood was prepared in the laboratory using three cooking conditions to steam-softened the chips in a digester and defibration was carried out using a single disc refiner. Boards were made with 13;urea resin without any other additives at three target densities of 0.5 g/cu.cm 0.6 g/cu. cm and 0.7 g/cu.cm. The boards were evaluated according Japanese Standard JIS 5906. Generally, the boards were characterised by a high thickness swelling but an excellent internal bond especially in the higher density range. Some problems and prospects in the use of rubberwood for MDF are discussed.
