520 _aLaboratory evaluation of natural durability of rubber wood against fungal decay has indicated that the wood is non-resistant against brown rot and white rot fungi. However, diffusion treatment of rubber wood using preservatives like boric acid, borax (BB) and sodium pentachlorophenoxide (NaPCP) is found to impart resistance against insect and termite attack as well as against sapstaining fungi. In the present study, test blocks treated with two preservative combinations BB and BB-NaPCP, are tested against Ganoderma applanatum and Lenzites palisotii, a white rot and a brown rot fungus respectively. The study has indicated that treatment of rubber wood with BB and BB-NaPCP provided resistance against the decay fungi. There is no significant difference between the effectiveness of the two preservatives and also between the susceptibility of rubber wood to these two fungal species.
