Effects of application of specific formula fertilizers on rubber growth and yield in Hainan, China

By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextPublication details: IRRDB Symposium on Natural Rubber(Hevea brasiliensis) V.1- General, Soils and Fertilization and Breeding and Selection Sessions. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, 14-15 October 1997,p35-44Subject(s): Summary: Rubber tree nutrients, soil fertility and the effects of fertilizer application were investigated in rubber plantations in Hainan, China. Based on the results, rubber associated soils in Hainan are divided into four categories: I. Deficient in phosphorus and potassium but rich in magnesium: II. Deficient in phosphorus and magnesium but rich in potassium; III. Deficient in phosphorus; and IV. Deficient in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium. The specific fertilizer formulae with rational ratios of N,P,K and Mg nutrients were then calculated according to the appropriate techniques for rubber tree nutrient diagnosis. Some trace elements which are benificial for rubber trees were also incorporated into the formulae. Fertilizer pellets were made according to the formulae and applied to rubber trees. Results indicated that the specific formula fertilizers had a significant benificial effect on the growth of young rubber trees and increased the latex yield of rubber trees under tapping.
