Material type:
TextPublication details: Planter 1997Description: 557-567Subject(s): Summary: Rubber is an established crop for large scale perennial tree cultivation. The wealth of information gathered from agronomic research has provided threshold indicators for crop production. In addition, since natural rubber is a major commodity on the world market, economic and market indicators are also available to determine the degree of sustainability of rubber production. Rubber is dominantly a smallholders crop. Apart from biophysical indicators, socio-economic perspectives are important considerations that can provide useful indicators. These indicators may eventually enhance the acceptance of technologies by smallholders and subsequently, rubber in the smallholding sector can be cultivated on a sustainable basis.
