Cure characteristics filler dispersion and mechanical properties of natural rubber/organomodified kaolin nanocomposites

By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextPublication details: Rubber India 2013Description: 60-64Subject(s): Summary: The cure characteristics, filler dispersion, tensile and tear properties and De-Mattia flex fatigue characteristics of Natural Rubber (NR) modified with 2-10 phr each of Rubber Seed Oil (RSO) modified kaolin and Tea Seed Oil (TSO) modified kaolon have been studied. The NR compounds containing RSO modified kaolin and TSO modified kaolin showed lower optimum cure time(t91 at 150dC) as against that containing the same dosage of unmodified kaolin Considerable increase in tensile modules, tensile strength and tear strength have been observed for the NR vulcanizate containing the organo modified kaolin, compared to vulcanizates containing unmodified kaolin. The vulcanizate containing 6 phr of TSO modified kaolin showed better resistance to crack initiation and flex fatigue failure. The SEM and AFM micrographs of the vulcanizates containing organo-modified kaolins showed much better, uniform dispersion of the filler particles in the NR matrix.
