Role of agro-management prsctices in productivity enhancement : A case study in Meghalaya
Material type:
TextPublication details: Rubber Board Bulletin 2013Description: 13-SepSubject(s): Summary: Rubber is now cultivated in the Northeastern (NE) states of India with proper research and developement support to meet the demand of natural rubber. Rubber plantaions in NE region experience various stress conditions like low temperature, storms. hail accompanied by high velocity wind etc., that adversely affect the growth and yield. Meghalaya state receives a fairly good rainfall. Productivity of rubber plantations is comparatively low on account of climate constraints, lack of infrastructure facilities, unscientific cultural practices and lack of awareness of the growers. Moreover, rubber is a new crop to this region. A field trail conducted in the model plantation of District Developement Cetre, Jenggitchakgre, Meghalaya, revealed the significance of rainguarding, yield stimulation under low frequency tapping, discriminatory fertilizer applicaation and disease control measures for productivity enhancement in the NE region. Special efforts may therefore be given to crate awaremess among the growers and for supply of estate inputes on regular basis for a certain period.
