Thermal analysis of natural rubber Hevea brasiliensis latex

By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextPublication details: Journal of Rubber Research 2000Description: 25-33Subject(s): Summary: Thermal analysis of the natural rubber Hevea brasiliensis latex (NRL) with different moisture content was characterised using differential scanning calorimeter. The analysis was done between -100 oC to 150 oC. The thermal characteristics investigated are the glass transition temperature Tg, the boiling point of free-water Tf and bound-water Tb. Results showed that Tg for both dried concentrated rubber latex and dried NRL are similar, i.e. -56.84 oC, and -56.57 oC, respectively while Tg for diluted NRL was noted detected. The existence of moisture shifted the Tf in diluted NRL towards a higher temperature which was similar to the thermogram of de-ionised water.
