Styrene - isoprene and styrene - butadiene copolymers were obtained by this process. The physical properties of rubber compounds mixed using various surface-modified precipitated silicas were compared with a silane modified silica unmodified precipitated silicas as control. The results suggest that the silicas modified by organic monomers provide significantly greater overall improvement of rubber performance than does the silane coupling agent and the control. However, silane modified silica gives higher flex cracking resistance than do the silicas modified by in situ polymerrization ER -
