Addition of materials like broken stone, brick, plastic mesh and polyurethane foam had resulted in 10.5 to 21.1 per cent increase in biogas production. Considerable reduction in the pollution parameters was also achieved due to the presence of these materials. The reduciton was more prominant with polyurethan foam which recorded BOD and COD removal efficiency of 88.0 and 85.5 per cent, respectively. Under this treatment total and suspended solids removal efficiency was more and biogas production was maximum. The direct relation between total solids degradation and biogas reduction in the anaerobic digestion of ribbed smoked sheet effluent was established with the addition of inert materials ER -
