<subfield code="a">Productivity is the relationship between the output generated by a production or service system and the input provided to create this output. Higher productivity can be achieved either by producing more with the same input, or by producing more with the same output with less input. In reality, productivity is influenced by all production-related issues viz capital, labour, technology, energy, consumables, delivery systems, marketing, management, etc. This paper views the policies and programmes for improvement of productivity both at the macro levels. At the macro level national economic and social policies are evolved for achieving national targets. At the micro level, which is at the enterprise and industry level, programmes for changes are formulated and implemented to achieve the national targets.</subfield>
