In connection with this breeding programme, CIRAD-CP carried out a research and development programme on the molecular genetics of the rubbe r tree at the AGETROP laboratory in Montpellier (France). The objectives of the programme are, firstly, to increase our knowledge of the genetic organization of the Hevea genus and, secondly, to provide new tools and methods for smallholders and breeders. Biochemical (isozymes) and molecular markers (RFLPs, RAPDs, microsatellites) were developed and have been sucessfully applied to the rubber tree in three main areas : (i) clonal identification, (ii) germplasm characterization and (iii) genome mapping. In this paper, results are reported on assessment of genetic diversity and the construction of the partial genetic map of Hevea ER -
