Boron compounds give rubber wood a good protection against insect pests. They are non-toxic and do not affect the colour of the timber. They are fairly common chemicals, easily available at reasonable prices. Treatment by pressure impregnation is more effective and faster than by dip diffusion, the former requiring only a few hours to achieve complete penetration while the latter needs a few weeks.
