New circular leaf spot disease: Current status of research activities in Vietnam
Material type:
TextPublication details: Proceedings of the IRRDB International Rubber Conference 2023, 20-21 February 2023, IRRDB, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, pp. 179-185.Subject(s): Summary: In October 2021, a new circular leaf spot disease was first detected in 153.8 ha of rubber trees from 3 companies in southeast region of Vietnam (Dong Nai, Phu Rieng and Phu Thinh). By October 2022, the disease spread to 8 southeast companies (Dong Nai, Phu Rieng, Dong Phu, Loc Ninh, Binh Long, Tay Ninh, Tan Bien and Binh Thuan) and 1 highland company (Sa Thay), with total infected areas of 9,972.6 hectares. This is a new disease on rubber trees in Vietnam. The timely spraying of fungicides by the companies to control the disease minimised the harmful effects and reduced the spread of the disease. A research project has been initiated to identify the causative agent of the disease; to observe biological characteristics of pathogens; to test fungicides with high potency against the pathogens; to screen the resistance/sensitive levels of some common rubber clones in Vietnam and to develop a protocol for the disease control. Initial results are presented.
