Material type:
TextPublication details: Proceedings of the IRRDB International Rubber Conference 2023, 20-21 February 2023, IRRDB, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, pp. 163-166.Subject(s): Summary: Zamboanga Peninsula is the top rubber-producing region in the Philippines. In September 2022, Pestalotiopsis leaf fall disease was observed in Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay, Philippines. About 25-35% of rubber trees in a 2.5 ha plantation displayed mild to severe infections. Symptoms included yellow to brown lesions. Combined morpho-cultural and molecular characterisations confirmed the identity of the pathogen as Neopestalotiopsis clavispora and was found pathogenic to healthy detached rubber leaves confirming the pathogenicity of N. clavispora in rubber. This is the first report of the pathogen in the Philippines infecting rubber.
