Preservation and protection of rubberwood against biodeteriorating organisms for more efficient utilization
Material type:
TextPublication details: Proceedings of the Rubberwood Utilization Seminar, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 1982; p20-36 1982Subject(s): Summary: The biodeterioration problems of Rubberwood are briefly described. The methods for prevention of attack by such agents like sap-stain, mould and decay fungi and insect pests are discussed. It is suggested that the preservative treatment methods should be adhered to in order to minimize wastage and to improve the utilization efficiency of the wood. The common method of preservation is the dip treatment using a preservative mixture of 1-2;sodium pentachlorophenate plus 1.5;borax. Other preservatives are used in much smaller quantities. Rubberwood is also very easily treated by the Bethell vacuum-pressure process using copper-chromium-arsenic preservatives.
