Summary, etc The variation in the quality of raw natural rubber causes serious problems associated with the processing and grading of the product which is the reason why NR consumers increasingly demand for a more consistent and homogeneous raw material. However, the quality of processed crop varies with changes in season, clonal origin and especially with the maturation time of the cupliump material. This study was mainly undertaken to evaluate the contribution of these sources of variation and where possible, identify some physiological parameters of the latex as early markers of the technological properties of the processed crumb. Relationships between certain physiological parameters of latex (analysed by micro-latex diagnosis technique) and some relevant technological properties of the raw processed rubber were estimated for some selected clones. The variations in these properties were greatly influenced by eco-climatic conditions whereas highly significant clonal variations were observed in the physiological parameters of latex while these variations were not so obvious for most of the technological properties. Some effects of maturatioon prior to processing on these technological properties were also observed, especially for the Plasticity retention index. Finally, significant correlations were observed between some technological properties and physiological parameters notably beetween the inorganic phosphorus and Plasticity retention Index, between the total solids content and the Mooney viscosity. This study shall be pursued to definitely establish the physiological parameters of latex as early markers of the technological properties of raw processed crumb.
