| Summary, etc | Two novel stress-induced cDNAs, HEVER 1 and 2 (Hevea ethylene-responsive) were isolated from a cDNA library, constructed from RNA of ethylene-stimulated Hevea brasiliensis plants, by probing with a maize glutathione S-transferase 1 partial cDNA clone. The HEVER gene is encoded by a multigene family. The HEVER transcript is expressed at basal levels in Hevea tissues and is developmentally regulated. In addition, the HEVER transcript and protein are induced by stress treatment with salicyclic acid and ethephon. Sequence analysis showed that HEVER encodes a 33 kDa protein that has significant homology to the hypothetical protein SKEXORFA-1 from the plant Stellaria longipes as well as two bacterial proteins, BAC180K-75 from Bacillus subtilis and MVRNO3-1 from Methanococcus vannielii. Nucleotide sequence data have been submitted to the EMBL/GenBank/DDBJ databases under the accession numbers M88254 and M88255 for the HEVER 1 and 2 cDNAs, respectively. |
