Summary, etc The affinity of absorbable dusting powder (ADP) corn starch and oat starch for NR latex proteins was assessed by determining the amount of fresh latex serum proteins and glove proteins bound to the powders. Factors affecting the protein uptake were investigated. In agreement with earlier reports, ADP corn starch and oat starch bound non-ammoniated latex proteins, with corn starch binding more than oat starch. Corn starch, however, showed preferential binding affinity towards acidic proteins which constituted the major component of extractable glove proteins. The adsorption of glove proteins to corn starch could be markedly reduced by introducing certain anionic constituents into the slurry. Changing the alkaline slurry to neutral pH value, choosing appropriate corn starch powder, lowring slurry temperature, incubation time an powder content and incorporation of post leaching could further reduce the protein uptake to minimal levels.
