| Summary, etc | The improved durability of rubber articles under severe service conditions is the challenge of the market to the rubber industry. Due to higher temperatures in the engine compartment of cars, for example, ageing processes are increased. Criteria for the selection of the appropriate antigradants are therefore decisive. In this investigation, the processes of thermo and mechanical oxidation of different polymers including NR (multipurpose and special rubbers) are discussed. Furthermore, it is shown how antigradants act to protect polymers from ozone, oxidation and fatigue and why the different classes of commercially available antioxidants have varying protective effects. |
