Summary, etc Since untreated rubber wood is less durable, the better and effective preservative treatment is very essential for its wider use. The paper presents notes on the need for rubber wood preservation, benefits of preservative treatments and comparison of estimated life of treated and untreated rubber wood in different environmental conditions. Treated rubber wood is found to have 3-3 times more durability than untreated wood. An attempt has also been made to analyse the economics of using treated rubber wood, cost of plantation grown, imported and preservative treated wood of commonly using timber species (Eucalyptus and Babul) and current sales figures of different preservatives etc.
