Summary, etc Fresh rubberwood contains 1.05;to 2.29;free sugars and 7.53;to 10.17;starch(o.d). Since rubberwood is used as a raw material in the production of wood-cement boards, the presence of high carbohydrates cause a retarding effet on the cement setting. However, it was discovered that the carbohydrates could be easily reduced by natural storage in an open area for several weeks. The amount of total free sugars and starch decreased to 0.23;and 1.08;respectively after being stored for 20 weeks. The reduction of free sugars and starch after storage was rapid at the initial stage until 12 weeks, after which it remained practically constant. It was assumed that blue stains and other microorganisms in the wood consumed the free carbohydrates.
